The advantages of an infrared radiant heater: Energy-efficient, economical and cost-effective
Conventional heaters produce heat, no doubt. But with all heating methods there is a lead time which involves costs. This is particularly noticeable at moments when you actually want this warm environment only for a short period of time. Preferring to sleep in a cold bedroom does not necessarily mean that you want to be cold during the morning shower or breakfast as well. Afterwards you leave your home for work to return hours later after a long working day. In order for the central heating system to achieve the desired temperatures, it must be permanently running.
It is irrelevant, whether you use gas, oil or district heating: The costs are substantial. Alternative heating solutions such as wood, pellet or coal heating systems also involve a significant lead time and the corresponding costs. The infrared radiant heater on the other hand only needs to be switched on – and only if and when you really need to. With the radiant heater there is no need for a warm-up phase. The surroundings will be warm in an instant – what could be more cost-effective? Save energy costs, time and nerves by using an energy-efficient infrared radiant heater wherever you want to enjoy warm surroundings in a heartbeat.
Which area is to be heated?
Determine your personal requirements prior to the purchase. How large is the room in which the infrared radiant heater shall be used?
We have various models with different performance levels. That way you can control the heat production straight to the point. You need a radiant heater for the children's rooms?
You would like to use the conservatory more often and therefore create a cosy warmth by means of an infrared radiant heater? Basement hobby room and workshop are too cold to spend a lot of time in there? Use the table below to learn which heating capacity is optimally suited for the area to be heated.
Overview of the maximum heating range to be covered by infrared radiant heaters both indoors and outdoors:
Application area | Recommended heating capacity per m² |
Area that can be covered by an infrared heater |
||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
with 1,200 W | with 1,500 W | with 2,000 W | with 2,500 W | with 3,200 W | ||
Inside (ceiling height 2.5 m) |
Very good insulation: approx. 100 W/m² |
approx. 12 m² | approx. 15 m² | approx. 20 m² | approx. 25 m² | approx. 32 m² |
Poor insulation / old building: approx. 150 W/m² |
approx. 8 m² | approx. 10 m² | approx. 13 m² | approx. 17 m² | approx. 21 m² | |
Outside | Sheltered: approx. 150 W/m² |
approx. 8 m² | approx. 10 m² | approx. 13 m² | approx. 17 m² | approx. 21 m² |
No shelter: approx. 250 W/m² |
approx. 4 m² | approx. 6 m² | approx. 8 m² | approx. 10 m² | approx. 12 m² |
You can proceed as follows to calculate the heating capacity (in watts) required for your room size:
Formula: m² x W/m² = W
room size (m²) x recommended heating capacity per square metre (W/m²) = required heating capacity of the infrared radiator (W)
Sample calculation:
For a well insulated room sized 32 m² we recommend the following heating capacity: 32 m² x 100 W/m² = 3,200 W
Say goodbye to dust and CO2! The infrared radiant heater is clean in every respect
Fresh air is essential for your well-being. Allergy sufferers and asthmatics especially have to rely on the room air being as dust-free as possible. Hygiene and cleanliness are essential for the well-being of asthmatics and allergy sufferers. Using an infrared radiant heater reduces the dust exposure. We are not speaking of sterile conditions but simply of room air that – in the true sense of the word – gives you the room to breathe.
The air in a room is compromised during the heating season. Warmth generated by a heating system has a drying effect, the healthy humidity level is decreased. Conventional heaters keep the air continually moving. As a result, plenty of dust is raised, dust you cannot see but feel the negative effects of. With infrared heating systems the room air remains calm, an accordingly smaller amount of dust can be found in the breathing air. The humidity level also remains constant at an agreeable level. Anyone who suffers from allergies or asthma will immediately feel the change in the atmosphere with a substantially reduced dust exposure.
Of course, all the other residents will also benefit from a heating method that does not raise any dust. It means that the mucous membranes in the nose will not dry out. Which consequently reduces the risk of catching a cold – especially in the cold season. Furthermore, infrared radiant heaters do not produce any CO2. The harmful emissions of conventional heaters affect the climate and the environment. With an infrared radiant heater on the other hand you play an active role in protecting the environment.
The positive effect not only contributes to a healthy room climate in one's private household. The radiant heater also does a good job in the field of medicine and healthcare. It would only be reasonable to use them in daycare centres, beauty salons and wellness centres. Warmth is beneficial – clean warmth and fresh air even more so!
Which infrared radiant heater is the right one? Here is an overview of the available Trotec series
Trotec radiant heaters are divided into four categories. Select the suitable version from the respective series
for your individual application purpose!
The IR-S series: Particularly versatile and energy-efficient
Infrared radiant heaters of the IR-S series are characterized by a high energy efficiency. The energy required for operation is for the most part converted into heat. Whilst the heat generated by a hot air blower quickly dissolves, the radiator heats up surrounding objects.
This allows for thermal energy storage and a heat emission that lasts longer periods of time. The heating effect sets in fairly quickly, it is intense and can be used selectively. Pre-heating is therefore not necessary. During operation of the IR-S radiator no dust is raised. It is clean, silent, odourless and universally applicable.
The all-rounder is well suited for allergy sufferers. In the course of the year you can, for instance, use an infrared radiant heater of the IR-S series in the time between seasons. As standby heating solution it also makes for a perfect addition to conventional heating systems or else it can be used as stand-alone unit. It gives a good return at the workbench and ensures a cosy warmth on roofed over terraces. In the commercial sector IR-S radiators are used in the catering trade or in cold halls.
The IR series: Radiant heaters with candle-light atmosphere
Radiant heaters of the IR series deploy the innovative low-glare short-wave technology. This procedure reduces the at times disturbing red light by 80 per cent. The result is a cosy atmosphere, they have hardly any influence on the effect of other lighting fixtures. Another important variable is the type of protection.
Electrical appliances are classified into certain protection types. DIN EN 60529 constitutes the legal basis. Which device goes with which protection type depends on the field of application. Every protection type starts with the letters IP followed by a number.
With the IP65 type of protection our infrared radiant heaters of the IR series are very safe. The higher the IP code, the safer the device. The first code digit refers to protection against contact, the second to protection against water. IP65 means the device offers thorough protection against contact and against the infiltration of dust. Furthermore, it is protected against splashing water and water jets from any direction. The infrared radiant heaters can be used in the private and commercial sector.
The IRD series: Heat generation minus light emission
The devices of the IRD series are so-called infrared radiant heaters. They emit heat but no light.
They are ideally suited for use in areas that are sheltered from the wind. Anyone who would like to relax on balcony or terrace in the evening, will welcome infrared radiant heaters for they create an agreeable temperature whilst leaving the ambient lighting and thus the atmosphere undisturbed.
Infrared radiant heaters do not require illuminants and therefore also no maintenance.
The IRS-E series: Mobile and flexible
The infrared radiant heaters of the IRS-E series are free-standing devices.
Being quartz radiators they come with state-of-the-art technology. The particular advantage of a free-standing radiant heater is that it is ready for use very quickly without any preparatory measures for fastening or similar.
There is no need for drilling, the use of wall plugs or other time-consuming installation work. Just set it up, switch it on and enjoy the heat!
Trotec provides the perfect heating solution for every field of application.
We supply radiant heaters suitable for mounting to walls and ceilings as well as mobile free-standing models.
