For a pleasant climate: Dehumidification in tents

Dehumidifiers from Trotec tackle damaging moisture in temporary accommodation – in a quiet and reliable manner.

When preparing a tent or another type of temporary accommodation, good room conditions are essential. This applies particularly to makeshift dwellings accommodating large numbers of people. This can be tent cities or container villages for asylum seekers, tent camps for youth groups, tents used as a place to sleep at large events, and also containers serving as a temporary home for seasonal workers. Particularly during the cool months in which tents and containers must be heated, the humidity level often rises to an unacceptable level. To create a pleasant indoor climate, reliable dehumidification is required. This is achieved by the powerful dehumidifiers of the TTK series from Trotec. High performance for the best climate conditions in temporary accommodation.

When a large number of people get together in a temporary accommodation, there is one major climatic issue: humidity. If a tent or container is heated in winter, the room climate might be warm, but damaging moisture still forms permanently. This is because of the dew point, i.e. the limit temperature at which the air cools down in a way that it can no longer store the contained water vapour. Due to the low outside temperatures, the tarpaulins or thin container walls become cold. At the same time, the warm room air is cooled down rapidly at the provisional walls, and thus condensation forms. The room air reaching the cold surface can no longer keep its humidity, which will then run down the walls or drop down from the ceiling. And: The more people gather in the accommodation, the more humidity forms. After all, a large number of people generate large amounts of breathing air and transpiration.

Damaging moisture

The consequences of an excessive room humidity level in an accommodation can be devastating. On the one hand, textiles and temporary furniture, upholstery and bedding become unpleasantly damp and can hardly be dried. On the other hand, there is an acute health risk due to mould formation. The consequences include unpleasant odours and infectious diseases and colds spreading more quickly. Whether a tent city for a youth event, a temporary accommodation for asylum seekers or people being evacuated from a residential area due to immediate dangers, the accommodation of a school class or kindergarten group in containers during construction work, or the set-up of a provisional night camp at large events: Only the use of professional dehumidifiers creates pleasant climate conditions allowing residents of makeshift accommodation a decent living.

Powerful and reliable

For a quick and reliable reduction of humidity in large-scale accommodation, the commercial dehumidifiers of the TTK series from Trotec are particularly well suited. These mobile all-rounders can be installed and connected easily in the accommodation. At the push of a button, they drain the large amount of moisture contained in the air and leave behind nothing but a pleasant indoor climate. The devices are not only extremely resilient, but also absolutely free of maintenance. The condensate drain is guided to the outside below the tent edge or along the container walls. For automatic operation, all you need to do is set the hygrostat to the desired dew point humidity level. The mobile condenser dryers impress with their reliable technology and high drying capacities even at low temperatures. The almost indestructible sheet steel the devices are made of survives any kinds of applications. This means that every dehumidifier of the TTK series can be used over many years and for various drying operations – even for humid building structures.

The benefits of condenser dryers of the TTK series from Trotec

TTK: standing for technology, tempo and capacity. The devices are

  • extremely robust and durable.
  • They operate absolutely reliably and quietly.
  • The devices impress with their extremely high dehumidification performance and are at the same time particularly low-maintenance.

External solutions – best performance, more space

Especially when the space in the temporary accommodation is limited, we recommend choosing an external dehumidification solution. The desiccant dehumidifiers TTR 400 D and TTR 500 D make a good job of it, even from outdoors. The device is placed on the outside of the tent or container and put into operation from there. The two separate air flow ducts for dry and regeneration air enable an effective and pressure-tolerant recirculation mode. Dry air is led into the tent via one hose and humid air is simultaneously discharged from inside via the other hose. Thanks to a sophisticated desiccant technology, distinctly lower dew points are achieved. This results in considerably lower drying stages and an energy-efficient operation. Another advantage – this time mainly for the people in the accommodation: Since the units are installed outdoors, there is more space inside and the operating noises are virtually locked out!

Professional consultation

Trotec offers you a large selection of high-performance dehumidifiers creating an optimum climate in temporary accommodations and tents. The experts of the Trotec industrial services team will gladly find out how many models are required for what type of accommodation. In case of high demands for advice, they will come and visit the accommodation on site and calculate the required dehumidification performance.

Further application examples for air dehumidification

  • Environmental simulation climate chamber

In climatic chambers and wind tunnels three factors need to be simulated at the best possible rate: air temperature, wind strength and humidity. For the latter, the automotive industry needs dehumidifiers, which also perform well at dew points below 0°C, as well as high-performance desiccant dehumidifiers.

  • Drying hygroscopic bulk material

Varying and too high humidity values can ruin the pourability of powders and granules – and thus entail high consequential costs. In order for hygroscopic bulk material not to go lumpy nor to block hauling paths, the entire air in the chemical and pharmaceutical production must be pre-dried. Using adsorption dryers of the TTR series that's no problem.

  • Drying after silo cleaning

After the cleaning of storage containers and silos you have to count on them to be fully dried for new bulk material to be protected against moisture from the beginning. And since drying can be effected in a quick and economical manner, we advise decision makers from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry to consider our high-performance dryers of the TTR series.
