Climate-optimised cannabis production

Trotec dehumidification solutions secure the yield and quality. The ideal humidity level is a decisive factor in the production process.

With the globally increasing legalisation of cannabis, indoor growing has established as a second cultivation method in addition to the conventional cultivation approach outdoors, in order to increase the harvest yield to a maximum independently of changing climate conditions outdoors.

However, indoor growing in special cultivation halls/greenhouses as well as the drying process following the harvest place high demands with regard to the climate control and dehumidification technology used.

In addition to optimum lighting with light in the suitable colour spectrum, successful hemp cultivation with a high economic efficiency requires professional solutions for permanent dehumidification.

Advantages of controlled dehumidification and drying in the cultivation of cannabis:

  • The growth of roots and plants is enhanced: The humidity level is a paramount factor for the optimum thriving of plants. Only the humidity level that is ideal in each of the growth stages makes cannabis plants really flourish.
  • A higher yield: A controlled humidity level during the approximately seven week flowering stage reduces the susceptibility of the plants to pests or diseases. The harvest yield is increased, harvest failures are minimised.
  • Accelerated drying process: Time is money – the earlier the end product is delivered, the quicker resources can be utilised again. With professional dehumidification solutions, the drying process after the harvest is substantially reduced and the quality of the flavours in the buds is optimised.

With a broad range of powerful industrial condenser dryers and axial fans, Trotec supports customers in their successful cannabis production all around the globe.

Advantages of climate control in the field of cannabis cultivation

Whereas for instance in South American countries climate conditions for the outdoor cultivation are ideal in many cases, the outdoor cultivation and subsequent drying proves to be rather difficult in large parts of Europe.

Therefore, European producers rely on suitably dimensioned climate control solutions from Trotec to ensure the climate conditions required for the cultivation, drying and storage of cannabis (humidity level and temperature) applying a suitable technique for dehumidification, ventilation, temperature control.

Optimum climate in all flowering stages

In the course of their initiation, formation and maturing, cannabis flowers pass through different flowering stages with different requirements to the prevailing climate. Whereas cannabis plants require a humidity level of 40 to 60 % to grow their roots during the germination and propagation stage, the humidity required decreases in the further course up to the end of the flowering stage. Our robust and flexible configurable industrial condenser dryers of the DH series guarantee a controlled humidity level in all stages of cultivation.

After the harvest, the suitable humidity level provide for optimum drying. A humidity of about 50% ensures a speedy drying process, preserving the precious flavours in plants and flowers. In this process, the use of additional fans or wind machines not only provides for an even humidity level in the entire drying room, but also for a water discharge of the plants that is quick and gentle at the same time, thus substantially reducing the drying duration once more.

Yield maximisation and protection against harvest failures

For the cannabis cultivation in indoor greenhouses and on cannabis farms, where the plants show extreme sensitivity to variations in temperature and humidity, Trotec industrial dryers as permanently installed upright or wall-mounted solutions ensure ideal conditions for a healthy plant growth.

The formation of harmful condensate and consequently the development of plant diseases such as mildew and grey mould is prevented in a controlled fashion so as to prevent a reduced yield of flower mass and a reduced quality, or even harvest failures.

An effective dehumidification procedure for maximum profitability

Industrial condenser dryers of the DH series are powerful refrigerant dryers with a dehumidification performance of up to 500 litres per day (4,600 m³/h air volume), which contain an integrated compression refrigeration system the task of which is to transport the cooling agent through the condenser and an evaporator. The air sucked in by air circulation is led through the evaporator, cooled below their dew point temperature, condensed to water drops and is then discharged to a collection container. The cold, dry air is now guided through the hot condenser, there it heats up due to the process energy and then flows back into the room as dry, warm air before taking up moisture again. This heat pump principle ensures an optimum humidity level at minimum energy costs.

Maximum drying air performance is guaranteed by the extensively equipped industrial desiccant dehumidifiers of the TTR series. With a scalable dehumidification performance of up to 1,790 litres per day (14,700 m³/h air volume), the desiccant dehumidifiers are also perfectly equipped for large cultivation surfaces.

All Trotec drying devices include:

  • Professional quality "made in Germany" – originally produced by Trotec
  • Scalable dehumidification performance for all applications and cultivation surfaces
  • Robust sheet steel housing with high-quality coating
  • Can be configured individually for any application due to a wide range of equipment options

Why the tried and tested dehumidification solutions from Trotec are also your best choice when it comes to the cultivation of cannabis plants

Optimum climate conditions and humidity values are indispensable when you want to cultivate cannabis plants. To ensure a maximum harvest with a high quality and at the same time prevent expensive harvest failures, reliable dehumidification solutions are required. With industrial dryers from Trotec you rely on well-proven solutions with a high economic efficiency in all stages of cannabis cultivation.

Make use of Trotec's best practice industrial services

Since every industrial undertaking has characteristic process flows, installations and facilities, every air treatment solution demands case-specific device configurations. All in all, the combined effects of air currents, humidity conditions and temperature fluctuations are often hard to calculate on a purely theoretical basis, e.g. in airlock areas or on conveying paths. The consequence: Unnecessary additional costs due to an overestimated demand or – even worse – solutions not working sufficiently in real life.

Further application examples for dehumidification

  • Dehumidification when filling & packing

The humidity level during filling and packing in the chemical and pharmaceutical production must be precisely controlled. After all, the damage would be immense should hygroscopic products go lumpy, start to stick or their shelf life decrease. Using our adsorption dryers, process air conditioning is no problem.
