Ceramic fan heater TDS 50 M
Quick, effective and draught-free warmth without burning dust
Due to its high air flow rate and advanced PTC heater battery technology, the high-performance rapid heater TDS 50 M is ideally suited for quickly heating large, cold rooms.
The TDS 50 M is powered by three-phase current, which is, however, not supplied to a conventional heating coil but to a durable PTC ceramic heating element integrated in this electric heater. In direct comparison, this does not only entail a more homogenous hot air current and a lower noise generation – the ceramic PTC heater battery also offers many additional assets:
PTC ceramic heating elements are more durable and robust than devices with heating wires or coils. Furthermore, PTC heater batteries independently regulate the power input depending on the ambient temperature and are thus automatically protected against overheating. For this reason, PTC heater batteries do not require a large air supply for cooling, which allows for installation of more smoothly running and hence silent fans.
In combination with the large heater battery surface, TDS-M fan heaters therefore generate a pleasantly homogeneous, draught-free hot air current in a silent way. Moreover, no dust is burnt using this technology, which is why the room air is not contaminated with additional fine particulates – ideal for use in inhabited rooms.
Safe heating operation even in continuous mode does not pose a problem for the TDS 50 M: it has an integrated overheating protection and a fan motor that is equipped with a thermal protection and automatic rundown function, keeping the fan in operation for a certain period of time after switch-off to ensure safe cool-down. As an additional plus in safety, the integrated ceramic heating elements furthermore increase the fan heater’s stability.
Whether for use in a workshop, in living or working spaces – the combination of a robust construction, sound workmanship and discreet design harmoniously integrates in any environment, and the thermally insulated carrying handle makes the device quick and easy to transport.
The desired temperature can be regulated as needed via the integrated infinitely variable thermostat of the TDS 50 M. For more targeted warmth, the heating capacity can be increased in two stages up to 9 kW. If required, the fan can also be used in sole fan operation without heating function.
Faster air heating – more uniform room temperature
Trotec’s fan heaters with PTC ceramic heating elements (A) not only differ from conventional heating coil technology (B) in terms of their shorter heat-up times. There are also process-related differences in the response behaviour of the heating elements.
Although both devices maintain the preselected target temperature (orange) by means of thermostat control using a two-position controller, the respective temperature adaptation takes place significantly more slowly and with greater deviations from the desired target temperature in case of devices with heating coils. The reason for this is the different conductivity behaviour of the heating elements:
if current flows through the heating coils, the coils will always have the same temperature once they have heated up. For controlling the desired room temperature, the power supply is first interrupted, making the coil cool down, and then re-activated by the thermostat so that the coil heats up again completely before it is switched off again when the set target temperature is reached.
This “on/off process” causes significantly greater temperature fluctuations than with ceramic heating elements, for the material of the latter provides an integrated temperature self-regulation. The hotter PTCs get, the higher is their electrical resistivity, resulting in less current flowing through the heating element and in a reduced heating capacity, and thus in significantly lower temperature fluctuations and less switch-on and switch-off processes in thermostat-controlled operation.
For this reason, ceramic fan heaters are able to create more even room temperatures for temperature-sensitive manufacturing processes as well as a pleasant working climate.
